The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provides financial assistance to low-income households needing help with electric or gas bills by making a one-time payment directly to their utility provider.

LIHEAP operates two utility assistance programs. The program you apply for will depend on your household’s current status with your utility provider.

Each household is eligible for one type of LIHEAP assistance per program year (beginning October 1).

Emergency Crisis Intervention (ECI)

ECI assists households in crisis (i.e. electric or gas service has been or will be disconnected).
Applications are accepted year-round.

CLOSED: Energy Credit (EC)

EC assists households not in crisis (i.e. electric or gas service is still connected).
Applications are accepted only every June.
