Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

LIHEAP is a federally funded program that provides eligible low-income households with utility assistance.

Types of Assistance

  • Emergency Crisis Intervention (ECI) assists households in crisis (utility termination is current or impending) by covering up to $650 of an outstanding utility payment. Applications are accepted on a month-by-month basis, but approvals are limited and space fills quickly. Payments are made directly to your utility company within 90 days of approval.
  • Energy Credit (EC) assists households not in crisis needing assistance with utility costs. EC applications are accepted every June and payments are made directly to your utility company in December.

How to Apply

Emergency Crisis Intervention (ECI)

ECI applications are not accepted without an appointment. Secure an appointment by calling the LIHEAP office at 961-2681 x 108 on the last Monday of the month between 8 AM and 12 PM. Appointments are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Energy Credit (EC)

The EC application will be available beginning in June 2021.
